This week was the beginning of a new series called Uncomfortable. We will be looking at the sermon on the mount from Matthew 5-7. Often times the things Jesus calls us to do or be make us uncomfortable because it seems an impossible task. I'm looking forward to this series!

Here were our songs this week:
Let God Arise - Chris Tomlin
Not to Us - Chris Tomlin
I Need Thee Every Hour - Arr. Jars of Clay
God You Reign - Lincoln Brewster
We Come to You - Derek Webb

This was our last week of our Fight Club sermon series. This has been a fun series, so it was bitter sweet for me. However, we fittingly ended the series with an instrumental version of Battle Hymn of the Republic before the service. Andy did a great job on saxophone, and big thanks to the Gretna High School Band for borrowing us a marching snare drum for the morning!

Our songs were:
All to You - Lincoln Brewster (looking forward to seeing him in concert this Friday!)
Jesus Messiah - Chris Tomlin
Mighty to Save - Hillsong United

We also celebrated communion together with the following songs:
Before the Throne of God Above - Sojourn
Revelation Song - Kari Jobe

And we closed the Fight Club series by singing the Battle Hymn of the Republic together. It has been a fun and challenging series, and our next one looks to be quite exciting as well: Uncomfortable: looking at the teachings of Jesus that make us shift in our seats! See you Sunday.

This week we stripped the band back for an acoustic set. It really helped bring us back to our foundations - get at the heart of what we sing about. Here were our songs:

How Great Thou Art
How Deep the Father's Love for Us
Blessed Be Your Name
Your Name
Offering
O Sing the Greatness

We also had to find an instrumental "fight song" to go with our series, which presented a challenge when doing an acoustic set. However, a little Bon Jovi, "Dead or Alive" always gets the fight stirring in most people, and is played on acoustic guitar! It worked great and was a fun start to the morning.

Happy Labor Day Weekend! For you husker fans, it was a great weekend. Oklahoma fans, not so much. Fortunately, we started the service off with the Husker Tunnel Walk song (also known as Sirius by the Alan Parsons Project) as an instrumental "fight song."

Here were the songs we sang, reminding ourselves to fight to be Godly:

Hosanna - Paul Baloche
Take My Life - as recorded by Chris Tomlin
Everything - Tim Hughes
Kingdom Come - David Potter

Our focus in this week's service was on purity. We continued in 2 Timothy, hinging on 2:22 - "Run from anything that stimulates youthful lusts. Instead, pursue righteous living, faithfulness, love, and peace. Enjoy the companionship of those who call on the Lord with pure hearts." Paul instructs Timothy to pursue righteous living - not as a way of being right with God - but in response to God's grace. We worshiped the God of grace through these songs:

Kingdom of God - Paul Baloche, Mia Fieldes, and Kari Jobe
Your Name - Paul Baloche
'Til I See You - Joel Houston
Enough - Chris Tomlin
One Pure and Holy Passion - Mark Altrogge
